Vikings vs Lions Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 18: Expect Indoor Track-Meet at Ford Field

The Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings in the final week of the regular season on Sunday. The Vikes still have a 3% chance of making the playoffs but will need to win and get a lot of help in the NFL odds.

While the Lions have already locked up the No. 3 seed, they could still snag the No. 2 spot with a victory and losses from both the Eagles and Cowboys.

Week 18 odds opened with the Lions as 5.5-point home favorites but money has poured in on the visitors driving the spread down to -3.5. Here are my best free NFL picks and predictions for Vikings vs. Lions on Sunday, January 7.

Patriots vs Jets Early Picks, Predictions & Odds for TNF Week 3

A short week is about as welcome as conventional medicine for Aaron Rodgers.

His aging bones (and tender Achilles) will be put to the test when his New York Jets host the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football in Week 3.

New England has shown some fight in its first two outings, and my early Patriots vs. Jets predictions expect that fight to continue. Find out why in the NFL picks ahead.

Patriots vs Jets predictions

Early spread leanPatriots +6.5 (-115 at FanDuel)

My analysisThe look-ahead line for this Thursday nighter was Jets -7.5 in the summer. After two weeks of results, the New England Patriots have looked better than expected… and the New York Jets are still very much a work in progress.

Food science has turned cooking into an art form for some footballers

Lockdown has offered plenty of food for thought and for most people stuck indoors all day it’s not long before thoughts turn to food. But while many of us have spent the past weeks fine-tuning banana-bread recipes and pondering the earliest acceptable time to raid the alcohol cupboard – with waistlines widening across the country as a result – Premier League players have been entitled to no such indulgences.

Instead they have had to maintain strictly regimented intake which, until a couple of months ago, was pretty much put on a plate for them. When lockdown came into effect, the remit of a Premier League nutritionist suddenly became a lot harder. To keep a squad of two dozen elite sportsmen on a fine-tuned high-performance d…

A deliberate act of tea-timely, spiteful and bureaucratic sabotage

MOOR THE MERRIER

It has been a busy couple of days in Doha, where Fifa president Gianni Infantino has had to field no end of awkward questions about the upcoming Human Rights World Cup in Qatar. However, one particularly tricky question The Fiver can’t help but feel has gone unasked regards the timing of Friday’s draw. Scheduled for 5pm BST, it hasn’t gone unnoticed here in Fiver Towers that world football’s governing body has pointedly timed it to coincide with the arrival of the world’s most daily email in the spam folders of our subscribers, meaning we’re unable to provide any pithy commentary here. What’s more, this deliberate act of spiteful, bureaucratic sabotage means that, in terms of piping-hot t…

Jenni Hermoso called up by Spain for first time since Luis Rubiales scandal

Jenni Hermoso has been called up by Spain for the first time since she was kissed on the lips by Luis Rubiales after the World Cup final.

Hermoso was included in Montse Tomé’s squad for the Nations League games against Italy and Switzerland this month. She had been omitted from the first squad after the World Cup amid the controversy ignited by Rubiales’s kiss.

Spain’s World Cup win was part of battle for equality, says Jenni HermosoRead more

Tomé said then that Hermoso had not been included because it was “the best way to protect” the player, who responded by saying: “Protect me from what? And from whom?”

Hermoso said she did not consent to the kiss by Rubiales, who was then…

The 2024 NBA Finals Schedule Is Really Dumb

It’s so dumb that we have to go an entire week without basketball. Both the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics are just four wins away from being named NBA Champions. But before they can get started on that series, we all have to wait a week. Some people say that good things come to those who wait. But I don’t want to wait. Basketball fans don’t want to wait.Game 1 of Mavericks vs. Celtics will tip off on Thursday June 6. Game 2 will be Sunday June 9. If this seems drawn out, that’s because it is. All but one night throughout this series will have a three-day gap spaced out between games without basketball. If necessary, a Game 7 would not happen until Sunday June 23. That’s just three days before the NBA Draft. We saw new superstars like Anthony Edwards emerge. We saw teams lik…

The 10 best college football games of the 2022 season

With bowl season rapidly losing its significance and only really three games that matter remaining, now feels like as good a time as any to look back on the best of college football’s regular season. From upsets to heated rivalries and Heisman-defining moments, there was no shortage of great games in 2022. While championship weekend came and went mostly without an all-timer — TCU only knows close games — let’s take a look at college football’s 10 best, most significant outcomes. I’m not going to go too long on the criteria. I’ll just say that the matchups had to be somewhat on the national radar, and hold our attention for the full 60 minutes. That means Ohio State-Michigan doesn’t qualify, so sorry, Kevin Warren. Alright, let’s get into it. 10. No. 3 Michigan Wolver…

Taylor Swift's Lawyer Sends Deranged Letter Over Blog Suggesting She's An Alt-Right Sympathizer

Last month, Taylor Swift and her team took some time away from interpolating novelty songs into disappointing singles and turned their attention to intimidating a little-known blogger. Swift took issue with Meghan Herning of PopFront, who accused Swift of dogwhistling to white supremacists in a post with the headline “Swiftly to the alt-right: Taylor subtly gets the lower case kkk in formation.” Herning, who wrote that the lyrics of Swift’s recent single “Look What You Made Me Do” were perhaps a knowing message of solidarity with the alt-right, received a letter on Oct. 25 from William J. Briggs II, who represents Taylor Swift. They ordered an immediate retraction of Herning’s blog. Here are that blog’s highlights, as picked out by Briggs’s letter: 1) “Taylor’s l…

Why Your Team Sucks 2016: New Orleans Saints

Some people are fans of the New Orleans Saints. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the New Orleans Saints. This 2016 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the previews so far here. And buy Drew’s new book here. Your team: New Orleans Saints Your 2015 record: 7-9. Pour one out for the swan song of Wolfman Rob. OWOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I’m gonna miss those two bitching at each other on the sideline after watching the Saints defense give up seven 80-yard completions in a row. The Benson family has better internal relations than the team they own. Your coach: Still Sean Payton! I can’t believe it. This man has been hung over for seven straight years and, instead of trading him to the Cowboys or some other hard-up franchise, the Saints handed Pa…

Why Your Team Sucks 2013: Atlanta Falcons

Some people are fans of the Atlanta Falcons. But many, many more people are NOT fans of the Atlanta Falcons. This 2013 Deadspin NFL team preview is for those in the latter group. Read all the 2013 NFL previews so far right here. Your team: Atlanta Falcons Your 2012 record: 13-3. No one makes a 13-3 record look thoroughly underwhelming quite like the Falcons. Your coach: Mike Smith, who is a good coach 95% of the time. He can assemble a very good staff. He can nurture a young passer like Matt Ryan and help turn him into a top-tier quarterback. He can concoct defensive schemes that help cover up glaring deficiencies in the secondary. He can bestow upon the Falcons an atmosphere of professionalism and levelheadedness that every NFL team aspires to but few actually achieve. He can …
